The Day Hospice
Since opening in 1999, the Day Hospice has become an established part of the communities of Tameside and Glossop.
It continues to provide the highest quality of nursing and professional care for those with palliative care needs in a relaxed, homely environment.
The Day Hospice has up to 15 places each day. Patients are invited to attend for 12 weeks - once or twice a week, depending on their individual needs.
The vast majority of patients attending the Day Hospice have a diagnosis of cancer, although we do invite those with Motor Neurone Disease (MND) and Multiple Sclerosis (MS).
It is important to point out that the needs of the Carer are also considered, as we offer Respite Care for their loved one on a regular basis.
The Day Hospice Team consists of:
- Medical Director
- Specialist Nurses trained in Palliative Care
- Physiotherapy Team
- Specially chosen Support Staff
- Chaplaincy Team
- Complementary Therapists
- Voluntary helpers
Our aim is to help the individual attain the best quality of life by providing the highest standard of holistic care in a warm, friendly environment.
Whenever possible, patients are discharged from the Day Hospice, and encouraged to return to normal life.
We acknowledge that the thought of discharge can cause fear and anxiety about the future for the patient and their carer.
Therefore, we invite patients to join the "Branching Out Club", which meets on the first Tuesday of each month between 3.00 and 4.00 pm.
This club provides a link and support for those who have been discharged, an opportunity for reassessment and the knowledge that they are not forgotten, but still loved and cared for.
The "Branching Out Club" also provides an opportunity for new patients and carers who feel apprehensive about attending a Day Hospice to come and meet us in a relaxed atmosphere.
Along with the holistic approach to nursing care, the Day Hospice service provides:
- Symptom management and physical care
- Physiological care, with sensitive listening skills
- Vena puncture and care of central lines
- Wound care
- Simple lymphoedema care
- Health promotion
- Headstart - the use of head scarves and hats for women suffering hair loss following treatment
- Jacuzzi/Spa bath
- Hairdresser
Above all, we provide palliative care, symptom management and psychological support for those who are seriously ill in a sensitive, loving manner. |
