Palliative Care
The emphasis at Willow Wood is on Palliative Care - although the medical team cannot provide a cure, they offer comfort, support and relief from many distressing symptoms.
The Hospice staff aim to improve the quality of life for the patients and relief for their families.
Why Do We Need a Hospice?
Current figures show that one in three people will contract one of the 200 known forms of cancer at some point in their lives.
Due to the ever-increasing age of the population, it is thought the number of cancer cases will rise by more than 30% over the next decade.
Although these appear to be worrying statistics, they are only a few of the reasons why Willow Wood was built.
Costing more than £2 million to build, the Hospice now provides Palliative Care for those in need of its specialist services, but it still needs your help to allow it to continue.
This year it will cost around £1.7 million to provide this service to those in need and any help you can provide will make a difference.
The value of hospice care has been recognised by experts as also helping those from diseases other than cancer.
What Does the Hospice Provide?
Willow Wood provides a range of care to patients, including In-Patients, Day Hospice and Out-Patients.
The In-Patient Unit has 12 beds and patients are referred to the Hospice via their GP, Macmillan Nurse or hospital consultant. Patients are admitted for symptom control or terminal care.
Day Hospice has 15 places per day, and patients attend for physical, psychological or spiritual care.
Attendance at Day Hospice often means patients are referred by their GP, Macmillan Nurse or hospital consultant and all patients are seen by senior Hospice staff.
Our new Lymphoedema Clinic will be aiming to make a huge difference to the quality of life of those suffering from lymphoedema. |
