I first came into contact with Willow Wood towards the end of 2017 when my mum was cared for here.

I can honestly say that she was given the very best end-of-life care; everyone whether staff or volunteer were all fantastic, looking after us as they looked after mum. My children were only 7 and 4 then but still remember how kind, helpful and caring everyone was and they’re happy to come back here too, their memories of Willow Wood are all so positive.

One of my hobbies is running, so I entered the Wilmslow Half Marathon to raise funds – I felt I needed to give something back. The Willow Wood staff were fantastic again, they contacted me with a T shirt, shared my fundraising page and put photos on social media after the event, thanking me for raising funds. We started to chat and when I said I was thinking of volunteering suggested the fundraising department where I could use my computer skills to help.

I’ve never looked back. I started to volunteer and when a part time position was advertised in the finance department put in my application, really hoping that I’d be successful. I was over the moon when I got the job.

Willow Wood does hold such a special place in my heart; everyone is working towards the same goal and whether they’re staff or volunteer feel proud and privileged to be part of the team caring for our community. I’ve continued to fundraise, volunteer at events wherever I can and can’t imagine working anywhere else. It truly is an amazing place.
