Dying Matters

Talking about death and dying and thinking of our own future care and funeral can be quite uncomfortable, but it is something that will happen to us all.

As part of the national Dying Matters Awareness Week, which this year is between 13-19 May, we thought we'd like to stimulate discussion about these subjects in a fairly light hearted way.
Nicky, our day services development lead, has produced this video, where she talks about the Government document 'Ambitions for Palliative and End of Life Care' and the six End of Life Choice Commitments that have been put in place. She's then chosen four of the commitments, and asked staff and volunteers to talk about their feelings on the following four topics:
Have honest discussions
Make informed choices
Document a personalised care plan
Involve family and carers
Please have a look at these short videos below - and maybe talk to your family and loved ones about what you'd like to happen.

DEATH CAFE

We're also hosting a Death Cafe between 11am and 3pm on Wednesday 15 May, at our busy PAD cafe on Shepley Street, Stalybridge. Counsellor Sarah and staff nurse Gill will be handing out slices of Death by Chocolate Cake and asking customers how they'd like to be remembered, what songs they'd like at their funeral and other questions about life, death, grief and more.
Please call in if you can - they'd love to see you.
