Lisa & Beryl
My mum, Beryl, was diagnosed with lung cancer towards the end of 2017, and passed away just a few short weeks later.
It was all very sudden; she was in hospital when diagnosed and that was where we met the wonderful Dr Mike Tapley who helped her move to Willow Wood where she was given the very best palliative end of life care.
It was such a distressing, upsetting and heart-breaking time, yet we all took comfort knowing that mum wasn’t in pain and was being looked after as she deserved to be. We were able to spend a precious week by her side, holding hands, telling her we loved her and creating those special memories to cherish forever. Mum spent lots of time with her grandchildren and six year old Finlay toured the building, making a video of the wonderful Christmas decorations for her. He also acted out his school nativity play in her room, as we knew she would miss it.
Mum was in Willow Wood for a week and during that time we laughed, we cried, and she passed away surrounded by her loved ones.
Willow Wood is simply an amazing place, and will always hold a special place in my heart for the care given to mum and to all of us. The staff and volunteers from the cleaners, receptionists, doctors, nurses, health care workers, catering, were all fantastic, so I’m giving something back by running in the Wilmslow Half Marathon to raise much needed funds. I chose this event as it’s just after Mother’s Day.
