Volunteering in our Shops, Warehouse and Online Sales

Help us, have fun and learn new skills in our busy Retail division

Volunteering in our busy retail division which includes our town centre shops, our warehouse and our eBay, Amazon and Discogs online sales, is a really important and rewarding way to support Willow Wood.

You'll be raising vitally needed funds. You'll be meeting like-minded volunteers and making new friends. You'll be using your skills and learning new ones. And, most importantly, you'll be helping us care for our patients and their relatives.

We're looking forward to reopening our existing shops in April, and planning to open a new shop in the Spring. More than half of our 600+ volunteers work in the shops, which shows just how important they are to us. Not only are they raising the funds to help us care, but they are ambassadors for the Hospice, presenting a warm, human face to our supporters.
Sheila has volunteered in our Ashton shop for several years now - read here how much she enjoys her days, why she loves chatting to the customers and why she'll continue to volunteer.
There are a number of different roles in our shops, so whether you want to be behind the counter or behind the scenes there'll be something that's right for you. We have shops in the following areas, but for full address, contact details and opening times, click here.
  • Ashton, Old Street
  • Ashton (Oldham Road, Waterloo)
  • Denton, Reddish Lane
  • Glossop, High Street West
  • Hyde
  • Stalybridge, Grosvenor Street
  • Stalybridge (The Pad), Shepley Street
And coming very soon, a bright new shop in Mossley.
We also have a very busy Cafe at the Pad, serving breakfasts, speciality coffees, light lunches and afternoon teas.

Our Ashton-based warehouse is at the centre of our retail operation. It's where we receive donations from our supporters, where we sort them and where they're loaded onto our vans to be taken to our shops.
It's always busy, we have a huge number of committed supporters throughout the Tameside and Glossop areas who donate large quantities of clothes, books, records and CDs, small electrical goods, toys - you name it, we've probably had it donated.
If you've got an eye for a designer label your knowledge could be invaluable to us, making sure that the more expensive stock can go where it will raise the most funds, whether that will be Ebay or our specialist bridal shop in Stalybridge where the 'mother of the bride' outfits are always in demand.
Current volunteer roles in our warehouse include picker & packer, furniture upcycler and Ebay researcher. Another important volunteering role is that of PAT tester - all donated small electrical goods have to be checked by a qualified member of the team before they can go out for sale.
We also need volunteer van driver's mates to help with delivering and collecting donated items.
Prior to the pandemic we also held monthly clearance sales at the warehouse - and our supporters are really looking forward to the day we are able to bring these back.
Our volunteers here do a fantastic job - but there's always time for a bit of fun and the chance to model a hat or two!

Our online sales team is also based at our warehouse and has expanded dramatically over the past few years.
We have a thriving eBay shop, selling collectables, clothes, jewellery, toys and more. Alongside that, we also have an Amazon shop plus Discogs, the specialist online music platform.
Our small team helps to list the goods for sale, pick them from the warehouse and pack them ready for posting or collection.

If you are interested in joining our retail team, in whatever volunteering position, we'd love to hear from you - we'll be reopening our shops as soon as we are able.
Once our shops are open again you're welcome to call in for a chat with the shop manager or any of the volunteers. We can also arrange for a trial couple of hours volunteering to see if it's for you.
In the meantime please have a look at the roles available and you can either complete a Volunteer Application Form straight away or contact our volunteer team on if you've got any questions.
Thank you - we are so very grateful for our community support.
