Eileen, Fundraising

I started volunteering when Willow Wood first opened, and was on the reception desk early doors on Monday’s.

However, my working hours changed and I then opened my own business which meant that I could only support the Hospice by attending events like the Willow Ball, the Midnight Wander and the Flower Festival.Seven years ago, as my work commitments changed, I was asked to join the fundraising committee and now help out with events such as the Royal Ascot Ladies Lunch, the Summer Fete, and Winter Wonderland Lunch, and really love my involvement.

However, a few years ago I was asked if I knew anyone who would take over the annual Flower Festival.“Yes!” I said.“Me!”

I love organising the Flower Festival, it’s hard work but I’m surrounded by very talented flower arrangers and a team of loyal, hard-working friends who are by my side all the way. Over the four years I’ve been involved, we have raised over £27,000 from the weekend itself and all the year-round fundraising for the Festival. Now, in 2022, myself and the team have just held our first Flower Festival following the pandemic and it was amazing. I worked so hard as did my team, not just on the weekend itself, but organising fundraisers in the run-up to the event, but it was worth it! Everyone who came had a fantastic time and my thanks to everyone for their suppport.

Willow Wood Hospice is such a fantastic facility for our community and I’ve watched it change and grow over the last 20 years.I’m so proud to be a part of it.I’m also always so proud to show it off to people over the weekend of the annual Flower Festival.People are amazed and delighted when they first come in – it helps make a potentially scary place a pleasure to visit.
