Brenda, Ashton Shop

I started volunteering for Willow Wood when I moved to Ashton-under-Lyne in 2017.

My step-daughter Kathryn died in the Hospice in 2015, she was only 46 years old. We were all so thankful that she spent her last days there. The whole environment was peaceful and respectful and all the staff and volunteers couldn't do enough to make sure Kathryn was made as comfortable as possible at all times.

I enjoy volunteering in the shop, I am retired and live alone, so it fills a huge gap in my life. I enjoy spending time with the other volunteers and have made many friends, and I also enjoy serving the customers, we have many regulars who enjoy a chat whilst they search for the many bargains.

I feel I am giving something back by helping to raise much needed funds for the Hospice.
