I enrolled as a volunteer almost six years ago when my wife, a volunteer admin assistant in the Lymphoedema Clinic, mentioned there was a need for someone willing to take photographs at various events throughout the year, such as cheque presentations by local groups, visits by civic dignitaries, schools projects and other social activities. The photos can then be uploaded to the Willow Wood Facebook pages, or in the local press, so that people can see what has been going on as well as highlighting all the tremendous work behind the money raised towards the upkeep of the Hospice.
I love the diversity of the voluntary work and also get to meet all staff members when taking their photographs for the display boards. it is a privilege to know such dedicated and hardworking people.
I recently also became an ambassador for Willow Wood. This added role involves speaking to different fund-raising groups and explaining how their contributions make such a difference to the continued success of the Hospice.
I would urge anyone who has a little spare time to offer, to consider contact the volunteer officer to see what they could do to help this wonderful and truly remarkable organisation.
